CLTC for Juniors

Open Competitions

The Club hosts two highly prestigious LTA Grade 3 tournaments during the year, one in April - the Cambridge Club Easter Tournament and then one in July - the Donarbon Open. Both events are highly popular and attract players from all around the Country - as far afield as Scotland and the Channel Islands! Details and application forms for forthcoming tournaments can be found on the Tournaments page.

Mini tennis coaching

Cambridge Lawn Tennis Club has a large number of young tennis players and children of all ages are encouraged to play the game. Jasper plays a shot. Imogen practices a cricket stroke!

We run an extensive mini tennis programme covering the following age ranges: Mini Red (Aged 8 & Under) Mini Orange (Ages 8 and 9), Mini Green (Aged 10 & Under) Coaching sessions at the club give children the opportunity to play up to four times a week. For more details of these sessions please contact the Tennis Administrator.

"Aces" Scheme

The most promising children are invited to join the ACES scheme. The coaching groups are smaller and children of a similar standard are grouped together. They are expected to play twice a week, play in mini tennis tournaments and have a desire to improve. The ACES scheme is subsidised by the club – if the players enrol for more than one lesson a week, the second and third lessons are offered at reduced rates. Pippa Horn meets HRH Queen Elizabeth IISelected children are also offered subsidised individual lessons with the head coach as part of the scheme to encourage them to commit to their tennis and help them improve at a faster rate.

CLTC Tennis Camps

Always popular, and open to children of all abilities, are Junior Tennis Camps. These are group coaching sessions for all the different age groups run during the school holidays where children can come together to learn skills and have fun.

Mini Tennis Tournaments

We are committed to introducing players to competition in a friendly environment where they learn the rules of the game, how to score, to win and lose and to behave in competition. The club runs a series of mini tennis tournaments at the three levels (red, orange and green) for both individuals and teams. Individual tournaments are open to anyone to enter from the club or any other club in the area. Team events are open to local clubs to enter and are made up of four players per team, one member of which must be a girl. The club also enters teams into tournaments held at other clubs in the region (e.g. Huntingdon Tennis Club and David Lloyd Club). These team competitions have proved highly successful for those of a young age. For details of Mini-Tennis Tounaments to be staged at CLTC please see the Tournaments or Calendar pages.

Starter Tournaments (Super Series)

As the players come out of the mini tennis programme at about the age of nine they can then participate in the club starter tournament programme which is an ideal way for players to get an LTA rating. These are held in school holidays, particularly half-term holidays.

Junior Socials

It's not just the adults that have fun at CLTC - we also arrange social events for our Junior Members. Recent events have included a circus skills workshop, a disco evening and, of course, a Family Doubles Tournament. Keep an eye on the News and Calendar pages for details of upcoming events.
